As evening falls, everyone reclines back with their loved ones in their homes and as the evening morphs into hours of darkness we fall into slumber in our warm cozy beds but ’she’ has a different story.

Zainab, mother of five year old, a victim of the blood thirsty people, sits and cries in the darkness because she knows, there’s no way out to punish the evil doers.

One evening when her little one, Youssif, was playing with his friends outside the home, seven months back, some masked men came, doused him with gas and set him ablaze, grotesquely disfiguring his face. The poor mother thinks that it was her mistake that she allowed her child to play like that... can you beat that, now playing too is very much a perilous thing to do in Iraq!

And as one could assume, this incident has completely changed the assertive and talkative tiny tot into a recluse. Embarrassed by his appearance and ostracized by the neighborhood children, he spends most of his time indoors. Iraqi doctors too have shown reluctance from their part and unfortunately, the family is not in a position to seek medical help from outside because of the cost.

What do you expect of a nation which is fully drenched with crime, callous activities are but a part of daily routine, a nation where there is no one secure... perpetrators behind all such crimes easily get away from the noose of punishment.

Wave of crime is sweeping the streets of Bagdad, day in and day out we hear horrifying stories shooting up from the nation, even the life of children is not secure from the time they take a step outside the threshold.

What are the people sitting at the authoritative positions doing? Waiting for more bloodsheds or are these incidents not enough to shake the very souls of their existence?
