unwanted-experience-on-internet_50Recent poll conducted by authorities in the UK has suggested that more than half of the children who are using internet are subjected to ‘unwanted experience’, which includes bullying and sexual harassment.

The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) has tagged it as a menace which may pose a serious threat to the growing generation. The director and chief executive of NSPCC, Dame Mary Marsh stated,

Children face real threats on the internet such as sexual grooming, cyber-bullying, exposure to violent, pornographic and other unsuitable material...

Survey has also revealed that nearly 60% of the children hook on to the internet in order to ward off their loneliness, while 53% used them to share their problems. And previously, it has postulated that 46% of the children spill out beans about their identity by through photographs and phone numbers.

The NSPCC has warned the children of not disclosing their identity online or personal details in chat rooms and have asked them to visit www.donthideit.com for more information.

Parents too must act in unison with the authorities so as to protect their kids from the impending dangers of internet. Just like you wouldn’t send your child to the park to play without any rules, you shouldn’t send your child on the Information Super Highway without rules.
