A survey conducted by Teresa Yates of Social Surveys Africa reports of a majority of child labourer working in the agricultural sector in South Africa. However, no data is available on the exact numbers of child labours in the country.

According to the latest national data, nearly 60,000 children are engaged in the agricultural sector. Nevertheless, this is an obsolete figure, because there are many remote areas, which go unnoticed.

Child labour is relatively high in those areas where children are largely affected by poverty, HIV/AIDS, and do not have any access to education.
