Child abuse figure in Calaveras County for the past few years is witnessing a little increase: although the number is not so horrifying in comparison to the nations such as Africa which is one of the most worst affected countries.
Though the number of abusive cases that were registered was high but the fact is there were less children’s who were involved. This is indeed a good sign.
With April to be celebrated as the Child Abuse Prevention Month, the child welfare organizations has unveiled the figure of abuse cases over the past few years.
2004: 764 reports, 864 children involved.
2005: 813 reports, 847 children involved.
Mikey Habbestad, the program manager said that the number of reports is increasing because the society is getting cautious than ever. She also she has not seen a steep rise in the number of cases but since the year 2001 the numbers are more or less the same.
