According to Haq Centre for Child Rights, child labour in Madhya Pradesh is rising alarmingly. To put the count in an estimated number, the total number of child labours has reached 1,065,259.
So far, only 1,700 cases have been registered and 35 convicted. Under the labour law of the state, employment of children below 14 is illegal: but there are thousands of them, who are working in some of the most unhygienic and worst form of labour such as, mines and factories.
Almost in very nook and corner of the states capital Bhopal, you will come across under-aged children employed in the fast food corners, dingy hotels, welding shops and even in the garages.
However, the major problem in tackling this scalding issue is the irresponsible attitude of the state officials. These people do not consider children working below 14 as a form of child labour.
