Indain Child

India, a country where growing population is one of the major concerns, paradoxically something just opposite is being noticed now.

In Rajya Sabha (the upper house of the Parliament) a disturbing fact has come to light that the number of the girl child in the age group of 0 to 6 years has gone down drastically.

1991: 945 girls - 1000 boys

2001: 921 girls - 1000 boys

In the question hour session, Panabaka Lakshmi, the Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare put forward a written reply, stating the reason for this fall that says the ratio is dipping down due to the increasing pre-natal determination test and large-scale practice of female foeticide.

Alone in this very year itself, there are nearly 386 registered cases of such incidents. It is necessary that the Indian government should buckle up soon to launch drive to stop killing of female foetus before the sex gap widens any further.
