In a recent survey conducted by Bristol University in rural Ethiopia revealed that the development project that was made to improve the standard of life for the rural women folk and children is leading to increasing cost per family.
The survey was conducted among 2,000 households in rural Ethiopia for almost four year: difference was tried to sort out between those families which had the provision of tap water supply and those who didn’t receive the water facility. The result was of course worth serious consideration.
The ratio of birth rates in the tap facilitated areas was too high in comparison to the other areas. Since the women folk didn’t have to walk away to far off places to get water for household chores, the energy is diverted for
reproduction activities which in turn have resulted in high birth counts.
But if seen carefully health-wise neither the women nor the child’s are self-sufficient: instead of reducing any problem it has given rise to other grave issue.
