A report published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (AMA) talked about how a coordinated global effort could save the lives of millions of children. Sadly, not even half the children around the globe get the basic necessities like food, water, sanitation and better household. This is mostly seen in underdeveloped countries.
The AMA journal talks about the issues related to poverty and human development. The World Health Organization did help the Association in publishing this report. According to the report, the Sub Saharan Africa, parts of Latin America, Caribbean and parts of South Asia, children are deprived of most of the basic supplies.
Dr. Majid Ezzati, an associate professor of international health at the Harvard School of Public Health, in Boston is one of the co authors of the report. According to him, if the worldwide interventions are targeted towards the poor, more people could be saved. Dr. Ezzati agrees:
Everyone needs clean water and good nutrition. There already is some work being done, one piece at a time. What we argue is that packaging it better and aiming it at the poor will improve results.
However, the report did not pay any attention to the financial aspect of the operations involved in providing the basic needs. I think that the fiscal part would take a whole new report. The bottom line is:the world needs to get together and intervene in order to end poverty and supply the children and senior citizens with basic necessities of life. I think everyone is entitled to their basic necessities.
