According to the 14th Amendment, a person born in the U.S. soil automatically gets the U.S. citizenship even if the child belongs to the illegal immigrants. Once the child reaches the age of 21 years, he/she can file a petition for parents and siblings to become permanent residents.
The conservatives however stand strongly against this amendment as they find that many of the illegal immigrants come to the country to give birth to the child, with a view to get the legal status in the country. However, there is no proof of any such happening as it will take whole 21 years to prove it.
