Chronic malnutrition is a big problem in Mauritania. Most of the infant deaths occur here due to chronic malnutrition. Unlike severe malnutrition, a child does not look sick nor is at an instant risk. But chronic malnutrition is also equally deadly as severe malnutrition. Around 109 of every 1000 children die of chronic malnutrition.



With no early symptoms, many people are not able to identify the disease in their children and thus do not visit health center. This unawareness among people about the disease further adds to the problem. Read More: BBC News
