The survey conducted by the Shanghai Women’s Federation revealed that the children are not involved in major family decision, thus violating child’s right to participation. The UN Convention on the Rights of the child, has right to participation as one of the four rights, which also include right to life, development and protection.



Zeng Fanlin, a special education professor at East China Normal University, who led the survey, opined that in the past the child right to participation has always been neglected. The right to participation actually means that the children have the right to express their ideas and opinions, which should be honored.
