Recent report has shed light on the educational establishments of Britain that shows the indulgence of racial discrimination within the organization with three times more black children being excluded than whites however, the authorities are rebuffing the report.
Peter Wanless, the author of the report states, ‘The exclusions gap is caused by largely unwitting, but systematic racial discrimination in the application of disciplinary and exclusions policies’.
The report entitled, Getting It Right, concentrates on why Afro-Caribbean pupils, especially boys, are three times more likely than white pupils to be permanently excluded from school.
It revealed that every year, 1000 black pupils are permanently excluded from school while 30,000 are barred for a limited stipulation of time.
In addition, these children are severely reprimanded for even less serious behavior than the other children also it accepted that the black pupils are more disciplined comparatively.
The report supports experts according to whom, the racism stems from the decision made by the staff of the school that have accumulated over the years. Moreover, the stereotypical notion about the blacks has also been instrumental in feeding the element of racism. Since, black people have always been looked upon as threatening.
Such ‘condition’ has further been ‘reinforced’ by the media consequent upon which, the school staff associated the pupils ‘to be worse behaved and to perceive a greater level of threat and challenge in their interactions with individual black pupils’.
In this light, the Department for Education and Skills representative said that it would be worthless to ‘brand the school system as racist.’ However, the parents, school institutions and government would have to work in unison to stop this prevailing nuisance.
Nearly, 100 schools and 20 local authorities have been classified under this banner. However, under the Race Relations Act 2000, if the schools continued with this kind of practice then, they would be in breach of their duties.
