May 25th is marked all across the world as the International Missing Children’s Day and hence, this year, parents of a four year old girl, Madeleine McCann, declared not to feel dejected, rather they are hopeful and are sure about the ‘coming back’ of their daughter.
Madeleine McCann, got abducted when her parents along with her siblings had gone for a holiday tour to a Portuguese resort. There, she was kidnapped from a holiday apartment. Her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, felt a kind of guilt for not taking proper care of their young one but later they stated that they are feeling stronger and much supported. Gerry said,
Certainly in the first few days the guilt was very difficult. I think as time goes on we feel stronger and we’ve felt very supported.
On the similar move, John McCann, the missing girl’s uncle, requested families in a similar position to remain hopeful. He said,
What I want to do is show that you can remain hopeful. The key part is realizing that there is a channel of support and that is where the charity Missing People comes in.
The UK charity Missing People have spilled grim figures, it suggests that there have been 1200 abductions since Madeleine’s incident.
Direct mailing appeal and yellow ribbon
Formerly, in UK, the day was named as the National Missing Persons Helpline but this time, it decided to re-name it as Missing People.
In order to commemorate the missing people, the charity installed the first ‘direct mailing appeal’ and an official yellow ribbon, indicating support for all missing children.
