Lebanese family fleeing the war afflicted Southern Lebanon
More than thousands of children are trapped in many parts of Lebanon because of the ongoing conflict between the Israeli Defence Force and the Hezbollah militant group. Shortage of food and the constant missile attacks are taking a heavy toll on them.
Many kids are dead and some are still thriving with the hope that someone will come and rescue them. According to Jan Egeland, the top UN Humanitarian Coordinator 400 to 600 is already dead. Egeland has immediately called for a 72-hour ceasefire to rescue all the survivors.
Egeland has told the reporters in a brief meeting that enough security is to be guaranteed to the UN convoys so that they can at once rescue the trapped victims.
Egeland said:
This should be done in the spirit that the children have nothing to do with this conflict. The children should be helped, should be assisted, and the firing should stop, at least until that is solved.
No official declaration has been made so far, however, work is in progress towards this first step to call on a political truce.
